HEAL Website Rework

A screenshot of the homepage for HEAL's website.

What did I do?

My job at HEAL was to:

  • Assess the website and identify problem areas

  • Collaborate with the team to create a better user flow

  • Update the website's content

  • Create a user guide document for handoff

Before

Above is a slideshow of screenshots taken before my redesign of the HEAL website. As you scroll through, you can begin to see the obvious problem areas we discussed. Inconsistent styling, empty pages, and out of date content.

The first thing I did with HEAL was have a consultation meeting where we looked through the website together and pointed out areas that needed improvement and other additions they wanted for the site. We then scheduled weekly meetings so that I could update them on my progress and check in on what my priorities should be. This taught me what needs to be prioritize while revamping a website, as well as how to maintain continuous contact with my client. Specific areas of improvement were:

  • Main site layout and user flow

  • Pages that didn't need to be there anymore

  • About Us page information and style

  • Collaborator page inclusion

  • Resources page information

My Process

Here are some photos of the sketches I would do for my client, the purpose was to get the general layout planned out with them so I could go into detail on my own. This was helpful for me to learn what did and did not work for wireframing. It taught me that using digital tools for wireframing can be helpful, but not necessary if you already have something to work form.

After

Here are screenshots from the final site. In addition to this site, I created a user guide document for the people at HEAL to reference so they could make updates to the site once I left. Overall, they were happy with the final results, and it was great experience for me working in the field. This job taught me how much I love working directly with the client, and how to work with Cascade and existing websites.
